Be gentle with yourself

So I set these goals, these commitments to myself and my business.  They’re great.  They are forward-thinking, doable, measurable, clear, not too ambitious—everything that a goal should be.

And yet they still don’t get done.  For example, blogging three times a week.

In terms of the “strategies” to make sure I write the blog posts, everything is in place—the editorial calendar, the schedule, the easy-to-use platform.  But they still didn’t get written.

I can trot out my excuses but as I coach, so I must do.

I teach my clients to be gentle with themselves.  I tell them: treat yourself as if you were your own best friend.  That means not talking negatively when things don’t go the way you planned.  That means not beating yourself up when you don’t get something done.  It means picking yourself up when you trip, dusting yourself and starting again today over and over.

And so I start again.  I don’t beat myself up or put myself down.  I write it on my schedule, I re-do my editorial calendar.  I commit to myself once more.  And then I open my laptop and write.
