Is your work making you stressed? Or overwhelmed?

Or anxious? And exhausted?

Instead of turning to Google for answers, find them here instead.

What I Wish I Knew in My 20s and 30s About Stress is a newsletter series that will give you 11 tools and strategies to deal with and manage stress. Combining essays on my personal experiences, action plans  and journaling prompts, this series will help you manage your anxiety, find calm, rediscover joy, and add fulfillment and meaning to your life. This was the information I was looking for when I was a stressed-out executive on the rise, with bad skin, a myriad of weird health problems, crazy insomnia, and an extremely short temper.

I wrote this newsletter series after I saw a newspaper article that announced that Filipino workers are the most stressed in Southeast Asia. If you’re one of those Filipino workers, then this was created for YOU.

Here’s a little excerpt from the introduction to this series:

Stress is insidious. You are familiar with the way it harms the body and messes up your mind and emotions. Its more dangerous effect is when it erodes your self-worth and hampers your ability to experience joy, fulfillment and satisfaction in your life. Being in a perpetually stressed state makes you feel like you’re on an exercise bike to nowhere, unsure about where you’re headed or what the point of all this work is for. You think you’re going somewhere but you’re actually just staying in place.

When you get sick enough to finally end up in a hospital for tests or worse, treatment, the usual advice from doctors is “reduce your stress.”

I received this advice during executive check-ups or when I had to see the doctor for various ailments: a headache that wouldn’t go away, intense period pain, palpitations or even skin issues that couldn’t be diagnosed.

The question I always had after hearing that prescription is: HOW?

This is what this newsletter series aims to answer.

  • Scripts for discussions on boundaries and priorities with your boss or colleagues
  • Journaling prompts so you can understand why you react the way you do and create a personal action plan

Why me and why this

I was a stressed-out teenager and was extremely anxious and overwhelmed about my job in my 20s and 30s.

How stressed was I? Well, here were my symptoms. Insomnia? Yup. Crying before going to the office? Yup. Weird health problems (like painful periods and bad skin)? Yup. An extremely short fuse? Yup. Impatience with everyone and everything? Yup. These were constants in my life.

It took unlearning, commitment, healing and attention to create a life of less stress—through clarity in my values, understanding what success meant to me and a commitment to tools and habits that served me.

This was the toolbox I wish I had when I was in my 20s and 30s…to save me from Googling, from reading a million books, from making notes and then losing them among all the note-taking apps on my phone and computer.
