When you have no motivation to get things done, I can give you go-getting reminders:
Power through.
Just do it.
Begin with the end in mind.
Or I can ask you to pause and consider:
What am I feeling? Why am I feeling this way?
Maybe you’re not clear why you need to get this done. Ask for the objective.
Maybe you’re not enthused about your team. Consider how you can shift your perspective about the people you’re working with by looking at their gifts and strengths.
Or maybe you’re just feeling meh about life. Ask why…and what do you need.
Maybe you’re scared to get started because you might fail. Take the first small step.
Maybe it’s Friday and you’re just yearning for the weekend. Remember your commitments and celebrate when it’s time.
As Mark Twain has reminded us, “The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” And sometimes the momentum of getting started on the thing you dread is what you need to get you going.
