Five things to do when you’re feeling self-doubt

When you finally take the steps towards your dream, you might wonder whether you’re on the right path, if you’ll even succeed or if your friends will look down at you for being different.

You’re feeling a lot of self-doubt. Here are a few reminders to keep you going:

1.Let go of stories that are no longer serving you, stories such as “Who am I to do this?” “I’m bad at…” “Someone else can do this better than me and I will never be as good as she is.” “What if I fail?”

If you are having these thoughts, shift them to more positive ones.

“Who am I to do this?” becomes “I can figure this out.”

“I’m bad at…” becomes “I can learn that.”

“I will never be as good as she is” becomes “I can be a better me and bring my unique self to this.”

“What if I fail?” becomes “What if I succeed?”

As Jen Sincero said in her book You are a Badass,

It’s just as easy to believe we’re awesome as it is to believe we’re giant sucking things. Takes the same amount of energy. The same amount of focus. So why do we choose all the drama?

2. Make a commitment to listen to your inner cheerleader instead of your inner critic.

3. Make a list of your past accomplishments and use the knowledge that you have done amazing things in the past and can continue to create even more awesome in your life.

4. When you’re starting something new, have the mindset of curiosity during the hard parts. Be with the discomfort of being a beginner, of not being the expert, of not knowing. At the end of discomfort lies knowledge and the achievement of trying and maybe even succeeding.

5. Connect with your why. Ask yourself why you’re doing this, why it’s important for you and how your life will transform when you accomplish what you’ve set out to do. And when doubts creep in, remind yourself over and over again of your why.
