You’ve done your Wheel of Life exercise and you’re taking the steps to reach your goals. You’re devoted to them: you give them time, good energy, effort. You work hard. You visualize. You surround the thing you want with good feelings, bright lights, rainbows and unicorns. You believe.
But what if what you want doesn’t work out?
What if there’s no reward?
You don’t get the promotion.
Your business fails.
The love of your life doesn’t love you back.
The magazines you’ve launched and fought for and lost sleep over close forever.
Is everything wasted?
No, it is not.
This is why you need to find joy in the journey, in following your heart, in honoring its longings, not in simply reaching your destination. You understand why you do what you do which is more important than the goal. You notice your transformation as you tell new stories about yourself. You feel more confident, courageous even. You see what happens when you don’t give up. What if the reward is in the practice, in the showing up, in the trusting? Then you are grateful to be where you end up anyway because it is somehow more glorious and more nuanced than you had initially imagined your destination to be.
