It is easier to be a cynic.
To give up on humanity and the future.
To see only the negative.
To fall into dead-end thinking and believe that nothing will change for the better.
It is easier to
complain
and find fault
and nitpick
and compare
and despair.
It is easier to consume
and mindlessly scroll.
It is so much harder
to hope
to find the light
to be curious
to be a fool
to create
to be a light
to be light.
But if you are a light-seeker, a wayfinder, a creative soul, then you have to keep walking down the more difficult path.
You protect your mental and emotional space.
You put down your phone.
You notice what’s good.
You write down what you’re grateful for.
You show up.
You trust.
You start something. Even if you’re not very good.
You plant seeds.
And create ripples.
You encourage.
You take deep breaths.
You believe.
You notice the blue skies, the birds singing, the roughness of the yarn underneath your fingers, the whisper of the pen on a page, the way the light falls against the face of someone you love.
And you try.
Over and over, you try.
Even if you would rather take the easier path.
Because that light, the light that you found buried deep inside you, that you nurtured and kept alive even when you were tired and scared and sick and broken, that light will lead you forward guiding not just yourself.
But others.
