Think back to who you were 10, 20 or even 30 years ago. What words of encouragement would you have needed to hear then?
To myself 10 years ago, I would say: “It’s okay to leave that job. I know that it’s safe and it’s your comfort zone. But the adventures you’ll have, the realizations you will make, the things you will learn, the love you will experience and the growth that you need don’t lie there anymore. Take the leap. I promise I will be there to catch you and hold your hand through the uncertainty, doubt and fear.”
I would tell me from 20 years ago: “There’s no need to rush into the next thing in your relationship or career. Things will happen in perfect divine timing. There’s no need for force or gigil. Trust and be patient. It will all work out.”
And to my college-age self, I would give these words of advice: “Now that you know that you really want to stay in this course, don’t give up. I know you’re exhausted and it’s really hard. It will be worth it, I promise. It’s not because of future opportunities but because of the confidence and self-belief you will get from succeeding in something so difficult. These, more than the degree, will serve you well.”
What about you? What advice would you give your past selves?
