“Are you quitting or leaving?” was one of the eight questions to ask before you leave your job as I wrote in this blog post.
The difference lies in the responsibility you take for the situation.
I’m quitting feels like you’re a victim of circumstances, that the situation is so uncomfortable you have no choice but to escape from it.
I’m leaving feels like you’re taking responsibility. You have looked at what’s happening and made the decision that where you are is not serving your highest good. You believe that there is a better place that’s aligned with the person you are becoming. You’re aware of your contribution to the situation and what you can do better moving forward.
Are you quitting or leaving?

Are you quitting or leaving?
Check in with your intuition. Be aware of your emotions. If your thoughts are cloudy or if you’re feeling fearful or tired or depressed, hold off on making a decision. If you feel calm and your thoughts are clear and positive, then make your choice.
Are you quitting or leaving?
Only you will know the answer. There’s no right or wrong one, only the one that’s the best for you.
