If you own your story, you get to write the ending

There’s something beautiful and resonant about this quote from author and speaker Brene Brown.

It speaks of personal responsibility, of choice towards your own happy ending.

The happy ending isn’t when the ring is placed on your finger.

The happy ending isn’t when you get the promotion.

It isn’t when you hear the heartbeat of your first child.

And it certainly isn’t the celebration on December 31 as you complete another year and welcome a new one.

(Now that I think about it, all of these so-called endings are really just beginnings.)

The happy ending is the one you choose to co-create every year, every day, every moment, every breath by the thoughts you think, the decisions you make and whether you own every part of your story instead of assigning blame or hoping someone or something will save you.

Your life is your story.

You get to write the words, the pages, the chapters.

Give it a happy ending.
