Making space

30-day challenges

What’s stopping you from getting things done?

Maybe you’ve been telling yourself for years that it’s time to…

…write a book.

…start your own business.

…meditate every day.

…go to the gym or yoga studio regularly.

…start a blog or TikTok.

Year after year, this plan is in your vision board. It’s always at the top of your goals. Maybe you’ve even written down some initial ideas or started to do a few sessions only for things started to fizzle out again.

And the excuses are never-ending.

“I have no time.”

“My ideas aren’t original. No one will read my work or buy my products.”

“This is too boring…or too tiring…or too hard…or not worth it…”

“I’m too old…too young…not experienced enough…overqualified…”

“I need more motivation.”

I won’t tell you to start small or take baby steps. And I won’t tell you to know your why. I won’t ask you: what will change in your life if you actually achieved this goal? I won’t remind you that it’s okay to begin again.

(However, all of these are really good recommendations so you can get started or continue what you have begun.)

What I want to ask you now is: How are you making space for this new thing?

Or are you just cramming it into your life like another impulse purchase from Shopee that you stuff into your already too-full junk drawer or closet?

Adding something to your already full life is not going to make you succeed.

This doesn’t mean that you need an endless block of time to do things. (I saw this meme on Instagram which said: Five minutes before a Zoom meeting? I can do a load of laundry, get to inbox zero and start a business. A whole day to myself? I spend three-fourths of that day daydreaming. So true, right? 😂)

What I’m talking about is this:

Maybe you need to clear out the unnecessary, the non-essential so you can make space for what matters to you and your future self.

This could mean saying goodbye to relationships that don’t make you feel good or work routines that have no boundaries.

Or habits that don’t add value or meaning. (How about taking 15 minutes off social media for a simple yoga class on Youtube? How about spending only one hour on Netflix to decompress after work instead of three hours?)

Or even limiting beliefs that don’t serve you. (“I have no talent.” Says who? “I don’t have unique ideas or business acumen.” Says who? “I’m good at starting and not finishing.” Says who? If you’ve heard it from others, ask yourself how well they really know you. And if you say it to yourself, examine if these thoughts are really true.)

Or even something as simple as clearing a kitchen counter for your baking business or making space in your closet for a future lover (even if you haven’t met yet) or removing digital clutter on your computer.

It’s time to get rid of all the (physical, emotional and mental) junk that’s cluttering your life and your energy.

It’s time to make space.
