At the end of the month, I’m turning a milestone age. Yup, it’s exactly the number in the photo above.
Because it feels like such a momentous birthday, I wanted to do something meaningful to prepare. (I was inspired by what one client did when she was about to turn 40). I set up a theme and an area of improvement for each month and resolved to devote all 30 days to making positive changes. These areas ranged from exercising to flossing to waking up early to praying to reviving my dormant gratitude practice.
I called it my Journey to 50.
But as the first three months passed, I thought about my future self and the actions that would make the most impact on her life. One month of commitment seemed too short. Some of the challenges also became easy habits to incorporate into my life (like flossing and practicing gratitude).
So I ended up devoting one quarter to three specific areas instead: exercise, prayer, and giving.
Exercise transformed my perimenopausal body with its bulging belly to one where there’s a lot less jiggle when I do my HIIT workouts. It changed me from someone who loved nothing more than lounging on a comfy couch into a person who craves movement. I also don’t need to use the Spanx knockoff that I bought in Lazada (this was actually the catalyst for making exercise a top priority).
Prayer reminded me that it’s not all on me. It was also a way to build a relationship instead of just seeing the Divine as a magical Santa Claus, the receiver and grant-er of my endless requests.
And then there is Giving. I found a charity whose mission inspired me, whose work will really change someone’s life for the better.
As this journey enters its last month, I want to say thank you to:
🌸my body for not giving up and getting stronger every day.and who can now finish full yoga, Pilates and HIIT classes without collapsing in the middle in defeat;
🌸my past self for planning this and making it a year to remember;
🌸my client for inspiring this journey;
🌸my future self for showing me what’s possible;
🌸God—for everything!
🌸you—for reading my posts. This means the world to me.
Celebrate with me this March—even if you just whisper a little HB to the heavens for me 💖
