The gifts of waiting

relax trust

There’s a strange energy to my days. It’s the energy of waiting.

Waiting for what? I’m not sure.

There are half-formed ideas in my head but they feel raw, not yet ready to be released into theworld.

So I’m waiting for them to ripen and reveal their final form.

In the past, I would have forced these ideas into being—through research or mind mapping, by launching a minimum viable product or asking for others’ opinions.

But now it feels right to wait, as you do a seed planted in a pot. The days that follow are still and quiet, as if there were no treasure buried inside. And then that tiny precious green sprout shows up—a reward for your trust and patience.

What are you waiting for?

A baby to be born? The results of a test? A trip that’s finally possible after two years of staying at home? A dream to manifest? Someone’s yes?

Instead of forcing a resolution, what if you can trust that the right answer will reveal itself at the right time?

Instead of moving forward, what if you stay still and listen?

Instead of being impatient, what if you can accept this season of waiting to be what it is, honoring the idea that some things are worth waiting for and cannot be rushed and reveling in the thrill of anticipation?

Always, always, the right thing emerges when it’s supposed to—not just through committed action but also by grace.

If you are voting in the Philippine elections this May, I want to leave you with this message:

“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only theworst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”― Howard Zinn

May we be hopeful. May we vote with courage, integrity and love, not just for ourselves and our children but our country and its future.
