“Maybe work wasn’t meant to give me 100% of my meaning.”
Two months ago, I listened to this episode on the Jess Lively show. And oh man, it shook my world. I wondered why I received this message only now and not when I was struggling with my career choices.
Let the words above sink in for a minute: “Maybe work wasn’t meant to give me 100% of my meaning.”
Then let these words sink in: “Maybe I wasn’t doing enough outside work to bring meaning to my life.”
It’s not fair to burden one aspect of your life to provide whatever it is you’re looking for (fulfillment, purpose, creativity, love).
“I was putting too much pressure on work itself to deliver everything and maybe it wasn’t meant to do that.”
It’s the combination of all aspects of your life that can give it meaning. It’s not just your work but also your family, friends, love life, home, hobbies or relationship with the Divine.
At work, do your best. Give your all. But don’t forget to live. Savor the richness of your relationships, marvel when you travel, be grateful for the abundance in your life.
