Habit #4: Have a life vision

have a vision for your life

Why do you need to have a vision for your life?

It leads you to examine it—to see patterns, the stories you tell about yourself, your values. It helps guide your decisions and defines what you want to do and the people you want to help.  A life vision provides a path, a direction for where you’re headed.

Here are some of my favorite vision statements:

Oprah Winfrey’s: “To be a teacher. And to be known for inspiring my students to be more than they thought they could be.”

Sir Richard Branson’s:  “To have fun in [my] journey through life and learn from [my] mistakes.”

Paul Jarvis’s, one of my favorite online entrepreneurs:  “Be useful. Give freely. Stay simple. Keep track.”

Over the next few days I’ll be discussing each of the Seven Habits of Emotionally Well-thy Women.  Click here to catch up on all the habits.

(Vision statements for Oprah Winfrey and Sir Richard Branson’s are from Fast Company.)
