My 10 self-care practices

my 10 favorite self-care practicesThis month, in my newsletter, I encouraged my readers to think of—and make time for— self-care this month.

If you’re interested, here’s my list:

1. Mirror work

When I head to the bathroom first thing in the morning, I smile at myself and say, “I love you.” It felt a bit weird when I started doing it but it’s become more comfortable now.

2. Meditation

I do 10 minutes every weekday morning and I use this app because I like guided meditations.

3. Journaling

There are days when I need to write a longer entry to process feelings but every morning, I make my list of five things I’m grateful for.

4. Youtube exercise

I’m not the biggest fan of exercise but something is better than nothing so I do a fun 10- to 15-minute workout daily. I’ve done barre, yoga, Pilates, hula… I’m excited to try out the workouts on this list too.

5. Sunday Night Journaling

What I used to dread has now become my favorite time of the week. During the day, B (my daughter) and I paint the pages of the journal and let them dry while we’re out at dinner. When we get home, I take a shower, slather on my honey face mask and then write, write, write.

6. Knitting and reading

I always say to make time for what you love so I do these usually before bed.

7. Exploring my creativity through painting

I’ve been convinced that my medium is words and that I’m not a visual person. But B received a set of paints for Christmas and we’ve been spending Sunday afternoons playing with them. So fun! I even bought this book to deepen my knowledge.

8. Tarot

I try to pull a card everyday. Sometimes the cards are spot-on and sometimes they don’t make any sense but I like the process of getting more intimate with these cards and my intuition.

9. Lunches or dinners with my friends once a week

Solo entrepreneurship can be lonely so I schedule a weekly lunch or dinner with a friend. This conscious effort of seeing them gives me something to look forward to during the week.

10. Prayer

I whisper a prayer of gratitude, for blessings and grace, for family and friends before I sleep.
