After almost a year of using The Sunday Night Journal…

journaling…I’m still fascinated at how this simple practice is giving me the self-care I need on a Sunday night.

The prompts force me to pause and examine my life from a new perspective. Sometimes, before I journal, I flip through the pages and am jolted by recurring themes (take care of your body! Consider your health!).

The weekly reviews give me a sense of achievement. Its summary format shows me what I’ve done and what I missed doing yet again (yup, this is another space where the word “exercise” keeps showing up). The gratitude practice is my highlight reel for the week. When I leave the box “Three things I’m looking forward to” empty, it prompts me to make plans, to do something fun, to make time for laughter, friendship and play.

I know that my to-do list is so much longer than the space allocated in The Sunday Night Journal. But seeing the words “Three things I want to accomplish” helps me prioritize. The question I ask myself when filling up this box is: what three things would make this week a win? I then transfer this list to my main planner on Monday morning to remind me of what I want (not just need) to get done.

I am in love with this weekly practice which allows me to slow down, be present and reflect on my life. It doesn’t feel like an obligation, not like daily journaling or social media posting. Another bonus: this time also gives my Ilog Maria Honey Face Mask time to do its magic. And now as I’m weeks away from completing Volume 1, this little book has become a wonderful keepsake, a repository of memories, hopes, dreams, goals, failures, fears and accomplishments.

How about you? Do you use your Sunday Night Journal every week? What do you love about it?
