Habit #1: Have a healthy relationship with your feelings.

seven habits of emotionally well-thy women

Women who aspire to emotional wellness have a healthy relationship with their feelings—with fear, anger, grief or joy.

What’s your usual reaction when you feel something aside from joy?  Say, for example, when you’re feeling scared or bored on envious or anxious?

If you’re anything like me, you run away!  It’s not comfortable to feel all the feels.  You pick up your phone and look at social media.  You shop or drink.  “Good vibes lang,” you say. You post on Facebook. You numb your feelings.

I’m inviting you to consider another way.  As Geneen Roth says in the quote below:  “[All a feeling wants] is to relax and tell its story.”

All any feeling wants is to be welcomed with tenderness.  It wants room to unfold.  It wants to relax and tell its story.  It wants to dissolve like a thousand writhing snakes that with a flick of kindness becomes harmless strands of rope.
—Geneen Roth, Women, Food and God

If uncomfortable feelings come up, I’d like to invite you to meet them with curiosity. Don’t try to run away. Ask yourself, why am I feeling this?  Another favorite questions that I love asking during a coaching session is:  What is the wisdom behind this feeling?

Over the next few days I’ll be discussing each of the Seven Habits of Emotionally Well-thy Women.  Click here to catch up on all the habits.
