The truth about making your dreams come true

The truth about dreams coming trueWe know that it’s a fairy tale: that a godmother would suddenly appear to wave a wand and make our dreams come true, that a genie would pop out to manifest our wishes, that we can make a vision board (on Pinterest or otherwise) and what we want will suddenly happen.

The reality about dreams coming true is this: it takes work.

I was surrounded by female entrepreneurs last Saturday, at an event called #girlbossph.  Beautifully dressed, expensively fragranced, these women all looked like the pictures of success. But as I heard their stories, I discovered we were all going through our own process of making things happen.  We listened to Len Cabili of Filip+Inna who told us about her seven-hour trek to find a tribe in the mountains, just to create the intricate embroidery on her dresses or to find fabric that’s been languishing in an almost-abandoned workshop. I sat beside a woman who was setting up her design studio while making the transition from her day job as an actress. I asked about a woman entrepreneur I admired who had to give up her shop to spend more time with her family.

Dreams require long treks, being a beginner, making difficult decisions, going through the process. They ask for your faith, your trust, but also for your persistence, patience and commitment.  They ask for your devotion.

The most amazing part about making your dreams come true is that the opportunity is open to all of us.  We don’t need to wait for a fairy godmother, or a genie.  All we need is the willingness to take the first step…and yes, that might mean creating that vision board so you can be crystal clear about what you truly desire for your life.
