What would last year’s self thank you for today?

gratitudeThis is my favorite journaling question. It makes its appearance in every volume of The Sunday Night Journal and it was a prompt in a Soul Writing workshop I recently conducted. It was a question that made the workshop attendees pause and look at who they were a year ago and acknowledge how far they’ve come since then.

I invite you to reflect on this question: What would last year’s self thank you for today?

Is it an achievement that you wanted and worked hard to get?

Is it an experience that you saved up for and committed to making happen this year?

Did you change or give up a bad habit, a toxic friend, an unhealthy working environment, a limiting belief about yourself or your life?

Did you welcome something new, exciting, life-changing?

Is it your resilience, your belief in yourself, your grit, your refusal to give up or give in?

Is it your strength, your courage to pursue the callings of your heart even if everyone else thinks you’re crazy?

Whatever it is, give yourself a hug, say “thank you” or better yet, treat yourself to something nice to reward yourself.

Keep going. Keep doing what you’re doing. Have faith. Trust the process. You have whatever it takes to get to where you want. And be grateful always.
